More than a century of educational excellence with an international outlook
Our history
Founded in 1912, the German School of Barranquilla is the oldest of the German schools in Colombia. Throughout its 113-year history, it has established itself as a leader in multilingual, intercultural, and high-quality education, recognized both locally and internationally. Below are the most significant milestones in our history:

A group of German citizens founded the German School Society (Deutscher Schulverein) with the goal of establishing a kindergarten for the children of German immigrants.

The Imperial Minister, Dr. Kraker von Schwarzenfeldt, inaugurated the school with only nine children. A year later, the community grew to 13 students, including the first Colombians.

The school changed locations on several occasions, adapting to its growing needs.

Thanks to donations from the German colony, the German Club, and Scadta, the first owned facilities were built.

The new campus in the Bellavista neighborhood was inaugurated, featuring a kindergarten and a gymnasium.

The school reopened at Quinta Holanda with 255 students and later moved back to the Bellavista building.

The first stone was laid for the campus on Carrera 51B. In 1964 and 1965, the Kindergarten and school sections moved progressively.

New support conditions from the German government were established. Official German language exams resumed, and ties with the ZfA were strengthened.

The school achieved its best results to date in the ICFES and German language exams.

Received official recognition from the German government as an "Excellent German School Abroad."

Opening of the Kinderkrippe (Nursery) and modernization of sports facilities. Host of the Friendship Games.

Creation of innovative spaces: German, Spanish, and Motor Baumhaus for early childhood development.

Implementation of solar energy in the Kindergarten, significantly reducing the environmental footprint.

International certification for the innovative use of technology in the classroom.

The school reaffirmed its international academic excellence under the BLI 3.0 model.

New differentiation in the IB Diploma Programme, allowing emphasis on Biology or English at Higher Level (HL).
